Daily Work Aug/Sept

Aug 16

Today I worked on and completed my stamp project. I practiced wedging, shaping clay, using negative space/removing clay to form an image, attaching two different pieces using the slip and score method, and blending two pieces together until they look like one solid piece.

Today I worked on making a human face. I was able to practice the slip and score technique and working with realism.

Aug 23

Today I made the object I'm going to be practicing painting with underglaze on. I was able to practice smoothing the clay out and using an object(in this case a peanut butter lid) to make a circle. I would've been able to start painting today, but I spent a good chunk of the period working on my original plan- making a cup. The cup proved to be way beyond my current skill level, so now I've decided to make a decorative circle that I can hang in my room.

Aug 25

Today I put my design onto my clay and began painting it with underglaze. I was able to transfer the design I drew in my notebook onto the clay by cutting it out, placing it on the clay, and lightly drawing over it with a pencil. I was able to practice mixing underglazes to get the color I want and then painting with them(which is much different than normal paint). Hopefully next class I'll be able to finish painting.

Today I finished painting and signed my project.

Today I made my first pinch pot, cut it in half, and started on my second.

Sept 6

Today I worked on my second pinch pot. It took a while, I had to start over halfway through. I don't think this one will end up being fired.

Sept 8

Today I got my fired projects back. I spent half of class glazing the stamp and adding more underglaze to my other project, then spent the other half working on another pinch pot.

Today I started making a pinch pot thats going to have a lid

Today I worked on the shape of my pinch pot, moved my initials from the inside to the bottom, and started making the lid.

Today I started glazing my project!! Honestly, I thought that I'd mixed too much glaze.. turns out I have to color match now because I didn't mix nearly enough.
